Our Story

Establishment of Mary Aikenhead Ministries

Mary Aikenhead Ministries was established by the Holy See, at the request of the Congregation of the Religious Sisters of Charity of Australia, to continue and develop education, health and aged care, research and social services ministries previously conducted by the Sisters of Charity. Following the granting of canonical status as a public juridical person of pontifical right by the Holy See’s Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life on 25 April 2008, Mary Aikenhead Ministries was formally established on 1 July 2009. The Congregation is the sole member of Mary Aikenhead Ministries, with the Congregational Leader currently the designated member representative.
