It is with profound sorrow that we mark the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis and with gratitude recognise that our Church has been led by such an extraordinary person.

We join in prayer as we remember Pope Francis. His life was a radiant testimony of God’s love, a beacon of hope for the poor and a steadfast guardian of our common home.

As Trustees of Mary Aikenhead Ministries we reflect on his example with humble gratitude. His commitment to the preferential option for the poor inspires us to serve those in need with compassionate care and unwavering faith. We pray that the spirit of his ministry will continue to guide our every effort as we seek to embody the mercy and justice of our Lord.

Inspired by the legacy of our founder Venerable Mary Aikenhead, our Ministries have committed to serving those on the margins, uplifting the vulnerable, and advocating for a more just and compassionate society. His Holiness’ vision for a Church that stands in solidarity with the marginalised resonates with our own mission; a mission based on the foundation of service, mercy, and the honouring of human dignity.

The Sisters of Charity and Mary Aikenhead Ministries have long embraced the call to serve the poor and care for the earth. This shared heritage fuels our collective journey toward a world where every person is valued, and creation is cherished. In Pope Francis’ life and teachings, we found a powerful embodiment of these ideals, an inspiring example of how faith can drive real acts of love and stewardship.

As we grieve this loss, we also celebrate a life that challenged us to reimagine our responsibilities toward one another and toward the planet we all call home. Pope Francis, called upon all of us to cherish creation, uplift the downtrodden, and foster a community where everyone is valued, respected and loved.

In honouring his memory, we recommit ourselves to the work of building communities of hope, justice, and sustainable care, founded on a legacy that will forever be a guiding light on the path forward to serve, heal, and transform the world for a better future for all.

Let us pray

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
