MAM Conference 2025

Mary Aikenhead Ministries 2025 Conference “We Are Called…”

On 28 – 29 July 2025 Brisbane welcomed delegates from across Mary Aikenhead Ministries’ (MAM) diverse works – health, education, aged care, outreach, medical research, and long-time friends of MAM for the 2025 Conference, “We Are Called…”

The Trustees opened the gathering with gratitude and special acknowledgment to the Sisters of Charity, Uncle Joe Kirk, keynote speakers Associate Professor Michele Connolly rsj and Dr Chris Lowney, and the event’s valued sponsors.

The theme invited delegates to consider how we are called today – to lead with courage, imagination, and hope, guided by Gospel values and the legacy of Venerable Mary Aikenhead.   Over the course of the Conference, participants explored both age old and emerging approaches to spiritual leadership, a preferential option for the poor, and care for our common home.

Stories of the first Sisters of Charity – women of extraordinary faith and daring – reminded delegates of our enduring mission to serve with compassion, justice, and integrity, balancing simplicity of spirit with good stewardship.  The conference became a space for reflecting deeply on how each of us is both ‘called’ and ‘sent’ as a leader to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters in today’s volatile world.

Following a moving smoking ceremony, Mass at the Cathedral was led by His Grace, Archbishop Mark Coleridge, with Rev Dr Adam Walk assisting in the liturgy. The celebration was enriched by the beautiful voices of the Mt St Michael’s College Choir.

That evening, delegates gathered for fellowship over dinner – deepening connections and sharing stories from their work at the coalface. The evening was brought to life by the Mabuyag Dancers, who shared the vibrant culture, stories, and traditions of the Torres Strait through powerful performances.

As the conference closed, delegates were encouraged to carry home not only the insights gained but also the renewed hope and energy sparked over the two days. They were invited to continue to forge connections across the ministries, to hold close the questions still stirring in their hearts, and to listen deeply for the call that continues to unfold in our leadership and service.

In the spirit of Mary Aikenhead and the Sisters of Charity, the conference ended with a blessing – to go forward with renewed purpose, united in mission, and ready to serve.
